American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists

Purpose:
Project Chance aims to provide quality health care to low income, uninsured, or special needs populations.  This program allows student pharmacists to develop a community outreach program in a local 340B-eligible pharmacy, which is covered by the Veterans’ Health Care Act of 1992.  This act requires drug manufactures to provide certain medications at reduced prices.  Project Chance targets these clinics or pharmacies, and provides health services significant to that specific patient population.

The Maryland chapter of APhA-ASP Project Chance currently offers Brown Bag sessions, in coordination with a local pharmacy.  The goal of these sessions is to provide medication reviews for patients on a one-on-one basis.  Patients have the opportunity to have a pharmacist review their prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, or other medications.  These sessions are used to optimize patients’ use of their medications and identify potential clinical problems.
