Below is an excerpt from Devi Thaker on her internship experience from Medco Health
Pharm.D. Candidate – 2003
Medco Health Summer Intern – 2002
Franklin Lakes, NJ – Corporate Office, Clinical Products

"My internship experience at Medco Health has opened my eyes to the enormous number of opportunities

available to pharmacists in a managed care setting. The internship has allowed me to reach out to numerous

pharmacists within the corporation, providing me with an in-depth understanding of PBM products and operations.
Over the span of the summer, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Clinical Products and the Pharmacy

Relations team at the Franklin Lakes corporate office. Some of the projects I was instrumental in bringing to

development include implementation of internet messaging for the consumer website and drug disease alerts

for point of sale. In an effort to positively influence pharmacist recruitment and pharmacy school

curriculum, I was directly involved in launching a survey created to identify pharmacists' competencies required

in various practice settings.
The Medco Health internship has been extremely rewarding; not only did I learn about managed care but also

a great deal about myself. My analytical and problem solving skills improved tremendously throughout the summer.

Perhaps the greatest element of the internship was learning a number of "soft" skills such as corporate work practices/

styles and effective communication skills. The experience and skills I have acquired through this internship cannot be

obtained in the classroom, but only through active involvement. I highly recommend the Medco Health internship program

to anyone interested in exploring other career opportunities available to pharmacists."
