A Bridge to Academic Excellence

Mission

A Bridge to Academic Excellence’s mission is to provide tutoring and mentoring for middle/high school students; to reward middle/high school students for producing successful learning outcomes; to provide real-world internship opportunities to expose middle/high school students to careers in the health professions, law, and social work; to have professional school students, faculty, friends, and professionals serve as tutors and mentors to middle/high school students; to provide transportation for students to ensure continuity of learning; to unite professional school students and student organizations on the University's campus to work together in teams as they will in their careers; to plan, coordinate, and implement activities to enhance the interest in and the success rate of applicants to the health professions, law, and social work.

ABAE has now added support and tutoring for students who need help in ENGLISH. Now, along with Algebra, and SAT Prep, students can get help in writing and english work.

Goals

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of ABAE, students are drawn from programs in pharmacy, law, medicine, physical therapy, and dentistry to serve as tutors. This unique opportunity to give back to the community also provides the tutors the chance to learn more about their own profession and the professions of the other tutors with whom they work and to meet pharmacy faculty and practitioners. ABAE has six goals:

  • To plan, coordinate, and implement activities to enhance the interest in and success rate of applicants in the health professions, law and social work
  • To provide real-world internship opportunities for high school students
  • To have professional school students serve as tutors and mentors to high school students
  • To provide transportation for all high school students to ensure continuity of leaning
  • To reward high school students for producing successful learning outcomes
  • To unite professional school students and student organizations on the University's campus to work together in teams as they will as professionals
