Required Training:
The PI and all research personnel listed on the protocol must complete the following required training prior to the approval of any IACUC protocol and/or the start of working with animals.
- IACUC Handbook by AALAS: Working with the IACUC, Writing an Animal Protocol. These booklets may be obtained by contacting Alicia Walters or via phone at 410-706-3234. Return the Self-Assessment Questionnaire to Alicia Walters for grading.
- Complete the Laboratory Animal Risk Assessment Program at https://www.ehs2.umaryland.edu/myehs.
- Complete and pass the following CITI training Working with the IACUC available at: http://www.citiprogram.org/ In addition, complete and pass the appropriate module(s) dedicated to the specific protocol species i.e. Working with Mice in Research Settings (and/or) Working with Rats in Research Settings. Send copy of Completion Report to Liliana Rao, Veterinary Resources, 10 S. Pine Street, MSTF Room G-100.
- Provide proof of tetanus immunization within the last 10 years. Please submit copy of certification to Liliana Rao.
- Humane Handling Training - contact Liliana Rao or via phone at 410-706-1545 to arrange for scheduling.
- Contact EHS at 410-706-7055 to review institutional training requirements and policies regarding personal hygiene, handling hazardous agents, biohazards, radiation safety, bloodbourne pathogens, lab safety, hazardous waste and personal protective equipment. Go directly to My EHS to register for classes.
