Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility
Policies
Access to Instrument
- Instruments may be used by anyone who has been trained by the NMR Manager and who has a current account. No unauthorized training!
- Each authorized user of the INOVA is given a personal user account. Help keep our UNIX computers secure, especially by choosing a secure password.
- It is understood that users will want to share experiments, procpar files, and the like, with others, especially those within their own group. Do not share your account or password with anyone. Violators may lose access privileges.
Scheduling NMR Time
- Users must schedule in advance for NMR time on the INOVA by contacting the NMR manager by phone (410-706-3118) or by e-mail, manager@nmr.umaryland.edu.
General Policies
- Do not bring food or beverages near the spectrometers or workstations.
- Do not leave your NMR tubes in the NMR Lab. They may be tossed in the trash, or become hopelessly lost.
- If a sample breaks in a magnet, contact the NMR Manager immediately so the probe can be cleaned. This will minimize probe damage from the solvent and sample.
- Repairs of damage to probes, or other equipment, arising from user error will be paid for by the user group.
- All users must lock and shim on the standard sample when finished with the spectrometer. If the dummy sample breaks, contact the NMR Manager.
- Read the manuals and user guides before performing any work.
- It is requested that the NMR Facility, and the efforts of its staff, be recognized in any publications or grants resulting from, or were made possible by, the work performed here.
- Do not use chipped or cracked NMR tubes.
- The NMR lab does not provide solvents or NMR tubes for your use.
Variable Temperature Work
- User must get permission from the manager BEFORE changing the temperature from the default setting of 25 deg C.
- You must schedule enough instrument time to bring the probe temperature back to room temperature when you are finished.
Service Work
- Samples may be submitted for the NMR lab staff to run for you.
