Women's Health
“What pharmacists and other health care professionals don’t know may limit access to care for women,” states Deborah Sturpe, PharmD, assistant professor regarding her research in emergency contraception (EC). Sturpe’s survey of students enrolled in health professions programs at the University of Maryland Baltimore found that students generally do not have accurate knowledge about EC. This deficit could create a barrier to care for women. EC education has stepped up in response to a recent Food & Drug Administration decision to move the drug behind the counter.
Emergency contraception is just one of the many women’s health issues Sturpe approaches to in her clinical practice at the University of Maryland College Park student health unit.
