Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science

School of Pharmacy Practice Laboratory

PPS programs provide student pharmacists and pharmacy residents with hands-on experience in patient-oriented pharmacy practice roles, as well as opportunities to experience advances in drug distribution.

Lab activities include:

  • Safe medication order processing
  • Patient counseling
  • Conducting patient interviews
  • Answering drug information questions
  • Assisting with therapeutic decision-making
  • Detecting adverse drug reactions
  • Administering medications
  • Performing basic patient assessment

Now more than ever, teaching trainees how to develop a patient-centered practice is crucial. See the Baltimore Pharmacy Practice Laboratory and the Shady Grove Practice Laboratory.

PPS faculty have constructed innovative methods to fully assess the student’s clinical skills and competencies, such as the Objective Structure Clinical Examination.
