Community Practice
In a unique partnership with NeighborCare, Cherokee Layson-Wolf, PharmD, assistant professor, supports community pharmacy in offering patient-oriented face-to-face specialty services. She models patient counseling in over-the-counter (OTC) medications, proper use of blood pressure and blood glucose monitors and suggests cost-saving alternative therapies to consider. In patient counseling sessions, Layson-Wolf and the PPS Pharmacy Practice/Community Care Resident conduct annual Medicare Part D reviews and guide consumers through medication assessments and management.
Since 2005, a dedicated team of PPS faculty have provided outreach to community pharmacists through continuing education programs. The School of Pharmacy has certified 382 licensed pharmacists in immunization administration. Over 160 student pharmacists have also been trained by Cherokee Layson-Wolf, PharmD, assistant professor, Mona G. Tsoukleris, PharmD, associate professor, Lisa Charneski, PharmD, assistant professor, and others in the delivery of immunizations for influenza and a potentially expanding list of vaccines in the state of Maryland.
