Summary

Associate Professor, tenure or non-tenure track, in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. This position requires teaching, practice, service to the school, campus and the profession, scholarly activity as an ambulatory care specialist

The position is a full-time, 12 month appointment in ambulatory care. In addition to practice, service, and scholarly activity as an ambulatory care specialist, this faculty member will provide leadership in their area of specialty and will develop an ambulatory care practice.

Supervisory Controls

This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. Clinical reporting responsibility to the medical/pharmacy director or designee at the practice site.  Teaching reporting responsibility to the Chair of the Department through the Vice Chair for Education.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy plus post-graduate training (residency, fellowship or equivalent experience), and teaching experience are required. Eligibility for Maryland licensure is required.  Excellent communication and patient skills are essential.  Specialty certification and evidence of scholarship are highly desirable.  Applicants with several years of experience are especially desirable.  A more specific delineation of responsibilities follows:

Position Duties

Education

  • Ability to teach a broad range of topics in ambulatory care is expected.  Exact teaching responsibilities will be determined in discussions with Vice Chair for Education.
  • Provide pathophysiology and pharmacotherapeutics instruction in didactic courses in our entry-level PharmD program.
  • Develop and teach in clerkship experiences for pharmacy students and residents at the practice site.
  • Provide clinical education in ambulatory care to students, pharmacy residents, pharmacists, staff, physicians, patients, and patient caregivers.

Practice

  • Develop active practice site in the area of ambulatory care.

  
Scholarship

  • Engage in scholarly activity in areas of interest. Research activities are broadly interpreted and may include a wide array of areas such as development of innovative pharmaceutical care, as well as, instructional design and process.
  • Degree of research involvement will be in-part dependent on whether the academic appointment is tenure-track or non-tenure track; active publication and presentation of work is expected in either track.
  • Scholarly activity may be pursued either independently or in collaboration with other campus faculty.

Service to the University, School, and Public

  • Participate in appropriate faculty activities (e.g. faculty assembly, department meetings, faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors is also expected.

The University of Maryland professional campus has schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, Law and Dentistry with an excellent established track record of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations with the other Professional schools on campus. Additionally, the School of Pharmacy has opened a satellite campus, at the Universities of Shady Grove.
