Programs and Centers

Pharmacy Practice and Science is home to five core programs and active service centers throughout Maryland.

  • Center for Innovative Pharmacy Solutions (CIPS) develops and tests sustainable models of care involving pharmacists in community, institutional and multidisciplinary settings. CIPS facilitates practice-based research to measure the impact of pharmacists on patient care and related health outcomes.
  • Clinical Pharmacology Unit (CPU) provides services to university investigators and the pharmaceutical industry based on a fee schedule. The unit aids in the design, evaluation and optimization of clinical trials, and conducts complex laboratory assays.
  • Patients, Pharmacists, Partnerships (P3) Program has pioneered and trademarked a pharmacist-directed model in chronic disease management and patient self-care. P3 is an effective intervention and a study of health outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Maryland Poison Center (MPC) is Maryland’s 24/7 emergency telephone service to help those who have been poisoned.  MPC serves the general public and healthcare providers, and conducts related research. Community outreach is a high priority for MPC.

  • Mental Health Program (MHP) provides expert pharmacy care for patients, and manages the provision of services in the state’s seven mental health facilities. MHP also provides mental health services in the community and contributes to a range of research.

PPS programs and centers represent training opportunities for student pharmacists and residents.
