Pharmacotherapy Residency
This 12-month PGY-2 residency is designed to enable the resident to practice as an independent practitioner working with other healthcare providers to provide optimal medication therapy in a wide variety of patient care areas. If desired, the program will be designed to allow the resident to select an area of practice in which he or she wishes to focus.
Objectives
Develop individuals with a strong foundation of skills and knowledge to practice as a clinical pharmacist caring for a wide variety of patients in an institutional environment.
Allow individuals to practice as an independent practitioners working with other healthcare providers to provide optimal medication therapy in a wide variety of institutional patient care areas.
Demonstrate proficiency in teaching and scholarly activity and will provide the resident the opportunity to develop their teaching and research skills.
Prepare the resident to attain board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist
Clinical Experiences
Rotations will take place at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore Veterans Affairs Hospital and Spring Grove Hospital.
Required rotations: two – three adult internal medicine*, medical intensive care unit, outcomes research, cardiology, psychiatry*, infectious disease, and two ambulatory care rotations- conducted longitudinally over 6 months each, (one required geriatric clinic and one elective clinic).

Elective rotations (up to 3*): oncology, pediatrics, shock/trauma, transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, surgical intensive unit.

In addition to these unique experiences, the Pharmacotherapy resident is expected to participate in Pharmacotherapy Rounds, the Residency Management Seminar series, School of Pharmacy teaching activities and Journal Club. For more information about these specific activities, please click here.
