Dr. Weiss Smith is Director of the Center for Drug Safety and a professor in the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research Department at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and the Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Her research focuses on pharmacoepidemiology/drug safety - including risk identification, evaluation, and management. Current research includes an evaluation of ESAs in cancer treatment (NCI contract) and evaluation of the FDA REMS program (FDA contract). Dr. Weiss Smith returned from a one-year sabbatical at the National Cancer Institutes at NIH on July 1, 2009. She is a fellow in the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and on the editorial board for the journal Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.
