Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research

Dr. Robert S. Beardsley is Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research, and previously served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the School of Pharmacy for 16 years.  He received a B.S. in Pharmacy from Oregon State University in 1972, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1974 and 1977 respectively.  Dr. Beardsley has extensive experience in grant management serving as Principal Investigator on 4 federal (including 2 from the former National Center for Health Service Research and 1 from the Administration on Aging), 3 Maryland state grants, and 6 privately funded grants. In addition, to experience in the management of large federal grants, Dr. Beardsley has studied human behavior, from both patient and health care provider perspectives. He has also written 125 articles in professional journals and has made over 100 presentations to professional meetings.  Dr. Beardsley is active in several state and national professional organizations. He recently completed service as chair of the Council of Deans for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the association’s Board of Directors. In the past, he has co-chaired of the APhA-AACP Task Force on Professionalism.  He facilitated the development of the Maryland Pharmacy Coalition, an organization comprised of the major pharmaceutical associations within the state of Maryland.
