Prospective PharmD Students

International Applicants

The School reserves the right to make changes in requirements for admission, curriculum, standards for advancement and graduation, fees, and rules and regulations.

An International Applicant is anyone who will need to obtain a US Visa based on attendance at our school to maintain legal status.  All International Applicants must be proficient in English.  English proficiency is proven by an official TOEFL score or proof that English is their native language.

All applicants are required to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. for at least one semester (12 credits). The School recommends that international applicants become familiar with the rules and regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Additionally, the School recommends that international applicants start the admissions process at least one year before the application deadline.

Applicants must:

  • Complete 68 credit hours of pre-pharmacy coursework. (Chemistry and Biology courses must have been taken within 5 years of  admission.)
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

To PharmCAS, all applicants must:

  • Complete an application through PharmCAS.
  • Submit transcript(s) from US institutions, evaluated foreign transcripts, PCAT scores, and 3 letters of references to PharmCAS.
  • Submit the results of the TOEFL.  View the campus minimum acceptable score. (550 Paper, 213 Computer, and 80 Internet).  A TOEFL exam must be completed if candidate is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be taken within two years of applying.  The TOEFL code for the PharmD program is 8246.

To the School of Pharmacy, all applicants must:

  • Submit official copies of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended outside of the US.  In addition, send the foreign transcript evaluation by a transcript evaluation service and directly to University of Maryland's Student Affairs Office.
  • Complete Supplemental Application on-line, include the non-refundable $30.00 application fee. (See below for details.)
  • After you have completed and submitted your supplemental application by the deadline, send the check or money order  --  made payable to The University of Maryland  --  in the amount of $30.00 t
