PharmD Admissions

Transfer Students

The School of Pharmacy may accept transfer students who have a valid reason for requesting a transfer. The Admissions Committee will determine the year transfer students will be placed in the PharmD program. Transfer students are only admitted to the fall semester, and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in current pharmacy coursework.

Transfer applicants are those who are currently enrolled in a professional pharmacy program at an accredited school or college of pharmacy. Transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the institutions they are currently attending.

To apply as a transfer student, do not complete a PharmCAS application. Instead, collect the following documents:

  1. A list of courses you are currently enrolled in.
  2. A letter stating the reason for transferring.
  3. One letter of recommendation from a pharmacy faculty.
  4. A Transfer Application.
  5. An official copy of all transcripts from the pharmacy school you are currently enrolled in, and all post-secondary institutions attended.
  6. Results of the PCAT, if previously taken. If your current school did not require the PCAT, then it is not necessary for you to take it.
  7. The Maryland Residency Form if you are eligible for in-state status. (who qualifies for this?)

Mail all seven documents along with a nonrefundable $130.00 transfer application fee, paid by check or money order made payable to the University of Maryland, to:

Student Affairs Office
University of Maryland
School of Pharmacy
20 North Pine Street, Suite 722
Baltimore, Maryland 21201

You must also complete an online Supplemental Application. On the application, enter the code TRANSFER as your PharmCAS identification number, and enter the date you complete the application as the PharmCAS application completion date.

Both your mailed application and supplemental application must be received by January 5, 2010. Our admissions committee will then decide whether to offer you an in-person interview.
