PharmD Admissions
International Applicants
An International Applicant is anyone who will need to obtain a US Visa based on attendance at our school to maintain legal status. All International Applicants must be proficient in English. English proficiency is proven by an official TOEFL score or proof that English is their native language.
All applicants are required to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. for at least one semester (12 credits). The School recommends that international applicants become familiar with the rules and regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Additionally, the School recommends that international applicants start the admissions process at least one year before the application deadline.
There is very little financial aid available for international students, and most of it comes in the form of loans, so collateral is necessary.
International applicants must meet all prerequisites and complete the same application procedures that applicants who are U.S. citizens. In addition, they must also:
- Submit the results of the TOEFL. The campus minimum acceptable score is 550 Paper, 213 Computer, and 80 Internet. A TOEFL exam must be completed if candidate is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be taken within two years of applying. The TOEFL code for the PharmD program is 8246.
- Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a transcript evaluation service and submitted to PharmCAS. In addition, official copies of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended outside of the US must be sent directly to University of Maryland's Student Affairs Office.
- Submit a statement of financial security that asserts that you will be able to cover average yearly expenses for the PharmD program.
