Student Affairs Tutoring Program Skype Use Policy

The School of Pharmacy will use Skype to facilitate student learning through the tutoring program. PharmD students may use Skype to tutor and receive tutoring. Tutors can use the Skype to provide teaching assistance toPharmD students at both the Baltimore and Shady Grove campuses.

Skype is only intended for use with student tutoring. No provisions will be made for student organization or other use of thistechnology.

Students’ use of this technology must abide by the campus Acceptable Computer Use Policy, HIPAA, and other policies and confidentiality agreements signed by the student.

Online Tutoring Procedures

Students who are tutoring and who receive tutoring services may use the Skype service Monday – Friday from 9am – 4pm in the Student Affairs Office, Suite 722 and Shady Grove Building I room <insert room number>. Skype, web cam, and a head set microphone have been installed on one computer in the Career Development Center and in ShadyGrove Building I room <insert room number). At this time there are no provisions for students to use Skype service except during the days and times stated above.

Skype use procedure is as follows:

  • Both Shady Grove and Baltimore students should complete a Skype request form.
  • Students will receive a confirmation once rooms have been reserved in Celcat.

Baltimore Campus

  1. Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
  2. Check in at the front desk in the Student Affairs Office, Pharmacy Hall Suite 722.
  3. If the web cam and microphone are not already connected to the designated computer in the Career Center, it will be connected for you at this time.
  4. Complete the tutoring session.
  5. At the conclusion of your session, complete an after-session tutoring survey to verify the session took place and notify Student Services and Computer and Network Services of any technical issues taking place during the session.
  6. Sign out at the front desk and return the web cam and microphone.

Shady Grove Campus

  1. Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
  2. Check in with the Coordinator in Shady Grove Building I, room <insert room number>
  3. The Coordinator will escort you to room <insert room number> and unlock the room for your session.
  4. Turn on the computer and log in using the instruction sheet provided on-site.
  5. Complete the tutoring session.
  6. At the conclusion of your session, complete an after-session tutoring survey to verify the session took place and notify Student Services and Computer and Network Services of any technical issues taking place during the session.
  7. Shut down the computer, leaving the web cam and microphone attached to the computer.
  8. Make sure the office door has been closed and is securly locked.
  9. Sign out with the Coordinator in room <insert room number>
