The School of Pharmacy requires all entering students to have a laptop for use during their four-year educational program.
PCs must have:
Important: Windows 7 Home and Starter editions are not supported.
Before you arrive on campus, you must have updated your operating system to its latest service pack. For Windows 7, this is Service Pack 1. To make sure that your system is up-to-date, open the Start menu and choose Windows Update.
You must also have professional anti-virus software installed and up-to-date in order to use the school's wireless network. The HS/HSL Library sells anti-virus software to students at a discount when the semester begins. You may puchase a copy of Symantec EndPoint Anti-Virus for $40. Finally, you should have a copy of Microsoft Office 2010. The HS/HSL Library sells Microsoft Office 2010 Enterprise edition for $90.
It is highly recommended you obtain a warranty that will cover your laptop during your years of study at the School of Pharmacy. If an accidental damage warranty is available, it is recommended to add that as well.
As long as your computer meets the minimum specifications listed above, you may use it. Software used in certain classes may require you to be able to run Windows. Apple's Boot Camp software, which lets you run Windows on a Macintosh computer, comes with the latest version of the Macintosh operating system, but a separate copy of Windows 7 is required.
If you do decide to use a Mac, you must acquire a copy of Microsoft Office 2011.
