Subject: Inclement weather policy
The Shady Grove Steering Committee has adopted the following policy and procedure to deal with examinations affected by inclement weather:
Policy: Examinations and quizzes are administered concurrently at the Baltimore and Shady Grove campuses. In the event of inclement weather, when either one or both campuses are closed, quizzes and examinations will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. This policy applies only to year one courses for the 2007-08 academic year, to year one and year two courses for the academic year 2008 – 09, and for all academic years beginning fall 2009.
Procedure: The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Assistant Dean for Shady Grove will receive notification of campus closing. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will notify all students and faculty by e-mail by 6:00 AM. Students and faculty are encouraged to visit the UMB alerts/urgent info website at http://www.umaryland.edu/alerts, and the Shady Grove website at http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu/about/public-safety/alerts/weather/ for additional information related to campus closures.
Students are strongly encouraged to go to the Shady Grove website and sign up for their Alert System: With one click you can instantly be alerted of all weather related closings and delays for the Universities at Shady Grove on your mobile device (i.e. cell phone, pager, or wireless PDA) and by e-mail.

Subject: Viewing MediaSite Recordings
We’ve received a couple of questions concerning this so please review this if you would like to view recorded lecture content. When you arrive at the Mediasite catalog, you will need to login again, using the campus userid and password. If you’ve never used the Campus Portal, go to http://myumb.umaryland.edu and choose the First Time User, Setup Your Password link.
To access the lectures:
1. click on Portal link in the yellow bar at the top of the homepage; log in using your SOP log in (your email name + password)
2. click on Mediasite link in the gray bar on the left side of the main page
3. log in on the right side of the page using your eUMB log in (your EmplID number + password)
4. lectures are listed by course number on the left side of the page

Subject: Do's and Don't's for Effective Lecture Delivery
Repeat the student questions AS WELL AS the student responses so that it can be captured in MediaSite.
Make sure that if a student has an announcement before class, that the student has a microphone.
Word documents (syllabi and schedules) do not make very effective MediaSite slides. Please refer students to the Blackboard site for reference for that material.
If you are planning an activity for the students during class time (determining prior content related to the subject), let CNS know ahead of time so that video capture can be “held” during that time period.
Please review the basics of technology-enhanced lecture delivery http://cits-mediasite.campus.umaryland.edu/mediasite/Viewer/Viewers/Viewer240TL.aspx?mode=Default&peid=51801412-fea4-4326-9846-092b8f4b1126&playerType=WM7&mode=Default&shouldResize=true&pid=bd3a6cdb-89c9-495a-977c-bfb68724baac&playerType=WM7#
