Facts and Figures
Background
The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, founded in 1841, is the fourth oldest school of pharmacy in the nation and the only pharmacy school in Maryland. Our mission is to enhance health through innovative pharmaceutical education, research, practice and public service. We are ranked 9th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for the quality of our doctor of pharmacy education.
Educational Programs
The four year professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program was started in 1993, focusing on patient-centered care to maximize medication therapy outcomes and assure safe medication use. At least two years of prepharmacy education are required for admission; most matriculants hold a baccalaureate degree. Over 200 community pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, government agencies, and pharmaceutical companies serve as practice sites for our students as part of our experiential learning program. The School also offers graduate studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Health Research.
